Pipe Major Linden Ingram (otherwise known as Dixie) hails from the far reaches of Aberdeen, Scotland.

As a youth, inspired by the traditions of the highlands, he was drawn to military life as a professional piper serving with both the First and Second  Battalions of the Scots Guards.  This culminated with his rise through the ranks achieving the position of  Pipe Major in 1970.

With continued dedication to the Regiment, from 1980-1984 he was the Senior Pipe Major of the Household Division and with both perseverance and determination won the World Championships in Grade 2 and 3 with the young pipers of the Piping School.

Always delivering the highest of musical standards he has performed on many occasions for the Royal Family and is well known to her Majesty the Queen having featured at many high profile events.

On leaving the Army he established himself as a leading teacher of piping in many prestigious schools, including Wellington College, Abingdon School, St Edward’s Oxford and Radley College where he has initiated the Independent Schools’ Piping Competition.  This competition is the only one of its kind in the country and follows the model of senior events, encouraging young pipers from both Preparatory and Senior Schools to come forward and demonstrate their talents over a range of events, from elementary chanter to the demands of the March, Strathspey and Reel set.

In the world of piping, he is now an international adjudicator of Pipe Bands and is a member of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Adjudicators’ panel, a role which keeps him busy both at home and abroad.  In addition to these activities he is also a consultant to three overseas piping summer schools held in New York, Flagstaff, Arizona and Breuberg Castle in Germany where he coaches, advises and encourages students in their desire to play the pipes well.

Dixie is available to play at weddings, funerals, dinners, parties and corporate functions and is happy to tailor his performance to suit special requests.
